Student meetings at RACU regularly feature well-known writers, businessmen, pastors, and priests. On November 29th, Father Anthony Lakirev from The Icon of God’s Mother Church in Troitsk, shared with students about the mystery of the Eucharist (communion). In the orthodox tradition Eucharist is central to the service, because of the belief that it is through this mystery the finite life of the believer touches the eternal. RACU is a bi-national educational institution and it is not a surprise that our students decided to visit the American Center which is located on the third floor of the Russian State Library of Foreign Literature.
In addition to library and reference services, the Center provides exhibits and weekly lectures on topics ranging from the history of racial tolerance to contemporary country music. Patrons of the American Center can watch award winning films, participate in meetings of a Discussion Club and other cultural events.
“I like to learn new things about other cultures” – says one of the students from the Language and Literature Department. “I think that I will become a common visitor of this Center because here I can become acquainted with American students who study in Moscow and take an interest in the literary legacy of America. I will gladly participate in the Poetic evenings of the Center and other cultural events.” |
