The faculty and staff of the Russian-American Institute are excited to report the addition of two new members to its team. Mark and Christine Currie have both accepted appointments to the faculty of the Institute and they will bring considerable strength and expertise to their work. The Curries have lived in Moscow since 1993. When the Russian visa laws changed two years ago, Christine returned to the States to complete her doctorate in counseling at Old Dominion University. She is on track to complete her dissertation by the end of this year and, once it is completed, she will join the faculty of the Institute’s Department of Social Work and also teach in the counseling program recently initiated at the Institute. Mark will assume the position as Chair of the General Studies Department and serve as an advisor to the Provost, while also teaching.

On Tuesday, December 15, Dr. John Bernbaum chaired a special meeting at RAI devoted to ideas for encouraging more academic research at RAI amongst faculty and students and ideas for developing more contacts with other institutions of higher education in Russia. Professor V.V. Ryzhov from Nizhniy Novgorod State Linguistic University of N. A. Dobrolyubova took part in the meeting, and plans were made for a scientific/methodological seminar to be held in March 2010 at the RAI campus which would give an opportunity for Institute students, staff, and professors to present their research. At the conclusion of the meeting, there was a small ceremony as Professor Ryzhov officially delivered the diploma of “candidate of psychological science” to Ruslan I. Nadiuk, the Chair of the Social Work Department. The leadership of the Institute celebrates this accomplishment on the part of R. I. Nadiuk and the Social Work Department. |
