Who can be a leader? Print
A weeklong seminar was held from June 15-19 called “Leadership: The Productive Use of our Strengths.” Vadim Babashkin, a citizen of Savonlinn, Finland, Master of Theology, three-time champion of the Soviet Union in wheelchair races, and now a staff member of Development Associates International, led the very interesting and practical training, which dealt with important aspects of successful leadership.

“Today we hear everywhere, ‘We need leaders! Give us leaders!’ but before a person rises up to lead others, several questions need to be answered: What is leadership? Where do leaders come from? How do you recognize a good leader? Is it possible to develop leadership skills? How? Only a few people have a natural ability to lead. They can easily motivate their colleagues, and it seems they never push or oppress others,” said Vadim Babashkin. “Unfortunately, most of us can’t say that we are in this category. In this case, all we can do is get the skills we need to work with people. Of course it comes with experience, sometimes painful experience, but when we clearly understand other people’s motives and behavior, we will be able to lead them. During our short course we tried to touch on these issues and many others.”
