RACU Launches Honors Program with Appointment of
New Director
About three years ago, RACU began serious discussions about starting an
honors program for outstanding students. Although the program was launched
with a couple of honors courses offered by our professor of fine arts,
Oleg Chernyshov, the program did not completely get off the ground. The
academic leadership in Moscow is very happy to announce that this will
soon change as a result of the appointment of Matthew Miller as the new
Director of the RACU Honors Program.

Although Russia has few European seaports, one of the best and most unique
ways to visit significant religious and historical sites of the country
is by water. On June 8, 2004, twenty friends of RACU from across the United

RACU’s Fourth Graduation Celebration
Sending Off the Class of 2004
On Saturday, May 29, 2004, the Russian-American Christian University held
its fourth graduation celebration. This year’s celebration was particularly
meaningful for faculty, staff, supporters, and students of RACU, due to
a major milestone reached this year: accreditation. This is a critical,
significant achievement for RACU; the 2004 graduates are the first RACU
class to receive diplomas recognized by the Russian Ministry of Education.
RACU’s accreditation, which was approved in November 2003, was noted
several times during the graduation ceremony.

RACU Alumni Return to Moscow to Teach
Two RACU alums truly embody the vision of what it means to be part of
both a Russian and American institution. Peter and Yana Smirnov graduated
from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York, on May 15, 2004,
with Masters of Social Work and Masters of Science in Management degrees,
respectively. The couple has overcome many obstacles to get to this point,
including adjusting to a new country without the support of family and
friends nearby, learning how to make ends meet through fundraising, and
excelling in an academic environment in their second language. Both Peter
and Yana commented on how much they have grown and changed in the past
two years as they learned how to trust God in new ways and experienced
the support of people whose friendships they now find hard to leave behind.

The RACU web site now features a comprehensive
list of all visiting faculty. This impressive list of over seventy
names includes not only current visiting faculty members, but all faculty
members who have taught at RACU since the opening of the undergraduate
program in September 1996. "Our visiting professors have created
a truly bi-national university and our students have the privilege of
learning from qualified and gifted teachers from Russia and North America,
" says Dr. John A. Bernbaum, President and Founder of RACU. "This
cross-fertilization is one of the strengths of our university. Our goal
is to continue using faculty from both countries, so that our students
truly receive a quality educational experience and exposure to insights
from both cultures." To see this list, click
