Canadian Parliamentarians Visit RACU Campus
It has been a while since RACU’s chapel room was as full as it was on the 10th of November. Students and faculty crowded outside of the room, because every seat was occupied. Four special guests visited RACU’s campus that day: Reed Elley, former Member of Parliament (1997-2004), Gerry Sherman, Director of the Christian Embassy of Canada, Wayne Webster, president of Princess Towers Inc., a Canadian real estate company, and Rick Schneider, a visiting professor from Yale University.

Faculty Spotlight: Patrick Black
Patrick Black joined the RACU staff this fall as both Music Director and an instructor in the English department. He is teaching two classes during the fall 2005 semester: Composition and Advanced English.

RACU Reaches Another Milestone – Publishes First Yearbook
In September 2005, the Russian-American Christian University reached yet another milestone in its history as the first Christian liberal arts university in Russia. With the publication of its first yearbook, RACU joins other Russian universities in producing a quality scholarly journal.

RACU Hosts First 2005 Business Forum
On October 24, RACU held the first Business Forum for this academic year. The Business Forum is a chance for RACU students and others to hear from experienced and successful Christian businessmen or women about their experiences in the business world and how they have lived out their faith in practical ways.

RACU Greets 46 Incoming Freshmen
RACU’s tenth academic year is underway, with 46 new students in its freshman class. Twenty-two of these incoming students are business majors, 14 are social work majors, and 10 are English majors.

RACU Welcomes Its First Fulbright Scholar
RACU is pleased to welcome its first Fulbright Scholar, Dr. James Brownlee. Dr. Brownlee, who holds a Ph.D. in Literature, has joined the RACU faculty as a Fulbright Scholar for a year, coming to RACU from Malone College in Ohio, where he has served on the faculty for 6 years.

RACU’S Fifth Graduation Ceremony Features “Profile in Courage" Speaker
On May 28th, RACU’s fifth graduating class received their diplomas, in a ceremony held on a beautiful sunny day in Moscow. Twenty-six RACU seniors received undergraduate degrees in business and economics, social work, English language, and literature, in a ceremony filled with great celebration as well as deep reflection.

RACU SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT TO STUDY AT U.S. UNIVERSITY
The RACU Awards committee is happy to announce that Tatyana Ivaschishina, a second-year Business and Economics student, has been selected as the next Calvin College Scholarship recipient. Tatyana is originally from the small town of Yelnya, a 1000-year-old village about 80 kilometers outside the major city of Smolensk. She began her studies at RACU two years ago, and she has consistently proven herself an outstanding student in all of her classes.

RACU Hosts “Day of Humor” Party for Local Youth
In 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar for the Christian world, and the new year fell on January first. Prior to this, the start of the new year had been observed on April first. Some people refused to accept the new calendar and continued to celebrate the new year on April first. It was celebrated in much the same way as it is today, with parties and dancing into the late hours of the night. These backward folk, who refused to accept the new calendar, were labeled as "fools" by the general populace. They were ridiculed, sent on "fools errands," and made the butt of jokes. This is the origin of April Fool's Day – known in Russia as the Day of Humor.

RACU Alumni Come Home to Visit
Held on March 19, RACU’s Alumni Homecoming was a great success. After enjoying snacks and fellowship, alumni received an update about RACU’s new facility and were encouraged to take pride in the fine education they received at RACU. Guests then participated in a party game geared to facilitate discussion about work experience, favorite memories from their years at RACU, and what role RACU has played in their life.
