RACU Hosts First 2005 Business Forum

On October 24, RACU held the first Business Forum for this academic year. The Business Forum is a chance for RACU students and others to hear from experienced and successful Christian businessmen or women about their experiences in the business world and how they have lived out their faith in practical ways.

RACU’s first guest this year was David Hodge, owner and CEO of Gill Athletics, the world leader in manufacturing and selling track and field equipment. In college and after, David Hodge competed internationally in pole vaulting, eventually leaving competition to work for a company that produces poles for pole vaulters. Shortly after beginning to work for Gill Sports, he was promoted to CEO, and he took a company that was bankrupt and turned it around into a company that is a world leader. In 2002, he bought the company from its previous owner, and it continues to prosper.

After sharing a formal meal with the students, David shared his story and described the highs and lows of trying to turn a company around, also giving some advice about what it means to function as a Christian in business. It was an excellent evening, and the students expressed their desire to continue having such opportunities to meet with people who can give them practical advice from their experience.
